I really wanted to like this book. In fact I had great anticipation when I opened it. Unfortunately what ensues is a rehash of much of the rules and regulations you will get by reading the other electric building books. I was looking for break out material. Information that would bring my building to a new level. I wanted to explore new possibilities and design thoughts.
To be fair the information is good, and practical. But unfortunately you can get the same information many other places. Rather than teaching you the basis of experimentation and new designs, most of the book reiterates the same information on pickups and pick-up placement, body styles and nexks that other books provide when you are trying to build your own version of the tried and true standards. What I was hoping for was fresh new ideas and ways to break through the standard and tried and true forms of the electric guitar. Instead there are only a few ideas on provoking inspiration, and more than enough documentation of the standards. Not that this is necessarily bad,but there are superior texts to learn from and the author does not set you up via the title for something inspirational.
Frankly, i didn't find much to help me with the path from the first draft to the final plan, and there certainly was nothing to help me to move to fabrication and building. A good idea poorly executed in my mind.
